"Where Knowledge Leads to Excellence"
Great News! The AKC Board is now allowing All-Breed and FSS Parent Clubs to Host FSS Open Shows. All-breed clubs will be able to host FSS Open Shows, and FSS breed Parent Clubs can hold an FSS Open Show for all FSS (including Miscellaneous Class) breeds. ADDITIONALLY, your dogs will earn points towards a "Certificate of Merit", which is equivalent to the "Championship Title". This title "CM" will be denoted on your registration. Visit the What's New page for the full details on all changes and vital links to forms, applications and information.
We have provided a detailed explanation of the acceptable results for the Wisdom Panel 4.0 test. The new 4.0 has 6 individual tests in which to evaluate the dog, giving us more information to make a better analysis of whether we have a purebred or not. Please visit our "Mars Test Results Explained Page" for a detailed explanation.
The BTCA, Inc., Biewer Terrier Club of America, Inc. has been named the parent club for the Biewer Terrier by the AKC. As the Biewer Terrier is gaining recognition World Wide as a breed of its own, the BTCA continues to assist those countries needing help in obtaining recognition with their respective kennel clubs. You can register your purebred Biewer Terrier with AKC/FSS, UKC and BTRA in the United States. We are looking forward to developing a strong, healthy foundation for the Biewer Terrier. For more information, visit our registry page.
The BTCA was formed to educate the general public and breeders about the Biewer Terrier. We are also mindful about keeping America updated on the ever developing process a new breed goes through on its journey to full recognition as a purebred dog.
The diversity of our members is an asset to the club as some members have opted to train their dogs in the fields of service and therapy work, in addition to the show ring and breeding programs. The rewards reaped by such work are insurmountable. It is the obligation and responsibility of a breeder to put together a first rate and ethical breeding program. By studying the health issues, character traits and history associated with the Biewer Terrier, the ultimate goal is to produce the best quality puppies, doing everything possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection. The code of ethics and breeding rules are examples of what every good breeder does to ensure that you receive a happy, healthy, well-socialized puppy.
Not only is it the responsibility of the parent club to preserve and protect its breed, but to encourage and promote quality in breeding purebred Biewer Terriers and to do everything possible to preserve the integrity of the Biewer Terrier. The BTCA does not take this responsibility lightly, as we strive to better the breed by education of the Biewer Terrier standard, as the only standard of distinction, approved by the AKC and Mrs. Biewer, the co-originator of the breed, and to see to the health and welfare of the breed. We can also achieve a better understanding of the possible health issues which may be associated with the Biewer Terrier and strive to alleviate them before they occur.
As we move forward, we will conduct specialty shows and performance events under the AKC guidelines, and encourage our members to show, as a testament to their hard work in developing the breed. As ambassadors of the BTCA and the Biewer Terrier, we will always display the behavior of a sportsman. We will assist with the organization of local Biewer Terrier clubs where there may be sufficient Biewer Terrier lovers to meet the requirements of the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Biewer Terrier Club of America. Each year the BTCA hosts a National specialty, and will be hosting regional specialties to make it easier for our east coast and west coast members to attend.
The BTCA has since been instrumental in helping the Biewer Terrier receive recognition with the Kennel Union of Southern Africa (KUSA);2010; the Confederação Brasileira de Cinofilia (CBKC) Brazil; 2012; the Bahamas Kennel Club (BKC); 2014; the American Kennel Club (AKC/FSS); 2014 and the United Kennel Club (UKC); 2015. The BTCA continues assisting those countries working towards recognition for the Biewer Terrier as we all work together in developing a strong, healthy foundation for the breed.
